Tanner is a Frisco, TX native where he was a 4 year letterman at Frisco Centennial High School. After his high school career Tanner went on to be a 3 year starter at Texas Tech University. His sophomore season at Texas Tech he was an All-Big 12 First Team Outfielder unanimous selection.. he helped Texas Tech clinch its second College World Series berth in three years.. led the Red Raiders with a .379 batting average.. racked up a team-leading 89 hits, including 19 doubles, six triples and three home runs recorded 35 RBI and 55 runs.. He would go on to be named a Rawlings Coaches Association All American and contributed to two Big 12 Championships (2016 & 2017).In 2016 he was a member of the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod league where he batted .346.. In 2017 he was a 9th Round selection by the Texas Rangers.
