Gregg just completed his 20th season of professional baseball
after the 2010 campaign. Drafted by the NY Mets in the 11th round
of the 1988 MLB draft out of D.C. Everest High School, he pitched
for eight seasons (1988-1995) in the Minor Leagues, including three
years in AAA. He ended his career with 403 strikeouts in 547 1/3
innings pitched, with a career 3.32 ERA. He also won at least 10
games three times during a four year stint as a starting pitcher.
He spent 10 seasons (1999-2008) with the Houston Astros Minor
League Player Development system, working in various capacities. He
served as a pitching coach for two years, hitting coach for three
years and managed for five seasons. He spent at least one season at
every level of the Astros Minor League affiliates.
Additionally, following the 2005 season he joined the Astros
Major League staff for eight games in September during the teams
first ever World Series run. While managing in the New York-Penn
League for Houston's Short Season A team from 2004-2006, Langbehn
guided the team to two Stedler Divison Championships, advancing to
the Championship series both times.
For the past two years Langbehn has been the Manager for the
Traverse City Beach Bums, located in Traverse City, Michigan. The
Bums are an Independent Professional Baseball team that is part of
the 12 team Frontier League.
The 2010 season saw the Bums make the playoffs for the first time
ever in their five year existence. They also advanced to the
Championship Series but ultimately lost three games to one in the
Best of Five.
All told, Gregg has been involved in Post-season play 12 out of
the 20 professional seasons he has played and/or coached or
managed, including five Championships. A 2005 inductee into the
Central Wisconsin Baseball Hall of Fame, Langbehn resides in
Rothschild with his wife Shelly, 4 1/2 year old son Nathan, and
they are expecting an addition to their family in mid to late
October.
