I’ve been looking forward to taking classes at the Rhody Center for a while. I finally signed up for what will hopefully be the first of many classes. Yesterday I was excited to take my first belly dance class. Kristen was very friendly and helpful. She took the movements slowly, broke them down and explained the mechanics. In addition, Kristen sought our input and geared the class toward our needs, making it indivialized. The added benefit was the small class size of wonderful, like minded people. I love the music, the dance space (colorful), the instructor, and the variation in styles (Arabic vs. Egyptian, etc.). Thank you for an amazing first experience and thank you Julie for hooking me up with a coin hip scarf. Can’t wait to spend next week learning more with everyone!

Chris

Chris DaCosta is a native Rhode Islander who has a background in music and dance. He has been playing music since 1998, predominantly on trumpet, and has a minor in Jazz Studies from the University of Rhode Island. Heavily involved in his culture, Chris started dancing for the Our Lady of Fatima Rancho, a Portuguese folklore dance group, in 2002. Combining his passion for dance and jazz, Chris started dancing salsa and started professionally training with Mori Granot of RI Latin Dance, based in Rhode Island. Chris continued his professional dance training under Ana Masacote and Joel Massicot of Masacote Entertainment, based in Cambridge MA. He is currently an instructor at RI Latin Dance school and specializes in Salsa On2 NY style and other Latin dances. He has also been a part of Alma Salsera, the Brown University Salsa Club dance team and a current member of RILD-Synergy, the RI Latin Dance professional dance company.
