I found Functional Patterns when I was 26 years old and barely able to scale a set of stairs without experiencing severe pain which lasted for several days afterwards. Even walking short distances on level ground caused me notable pain. My pelvis was unstable, my spine was stuck in a scoliotic curve, and my left arm had shooting pain at random times. A perfect storm of factors contributed to my problems. My right leg is structurally longer than the left; my body had not yet recovered from an extremely taxing pregnancy and labor; and I’d begun to practice yoga, which I loved, but it stressed my joints and caused instability.
Before finding Functional Patterns, I spent time working with a physical therapist to no avail. Some areas of pain plateaued, others became worse, and a new pain cropped up in my upper back. I knew that all of these issues were somehow connected, but my PT had no answers for me.
A friend suggested Functional Patterns. By that point I was willing to try anything. I was sick and tired of living a desperate, pain ridden life. I walked into an FP class with no idea what I was getting myself into. It was intensely challenging, but at the end of the class I felt better than I had in a long time. I started doing Functional Patterns four times a week with MFR every day, and within two months I was able to do moderate hiking in Utah with minimal pain.
I became a certified Functional Patterns practitioner the following year. There is no greater joy than helping someone through the same problems I used to deal with.
