Yoga and Osteoporosis: Is Yoga Helpful? Is Yoga Safe? Is Yoga Enough? About 18% of people over the age of 65 have osteoporosis and 48% have osteopenia. The loss of bone density can lead to microfractures and collapsing or rounding of the spine. If a fall occurs that results in a fracture, quality of life can be dramatically affected.
The goal of this workshop is to learn how a well-rounded yoga practice can not only help to maintain bone density but also improve posture, flexibility, balance and strength, which can reduce falls. Modifications will be offered that support a safe yoga practice, if you already have osteopenia, osteoporosis or spinal microfractures.
Resources will be provided so attendees can consider other devices and fitness regimes. This workshop will incorporate Education, Community and a Gentle Yoga Practice.
