Yogic philosophy sees anxiety as a change in energy and has a whole
host of options to choose from to manage it and get into better
balance. If you feel like you could use some more tools in your
toolbox to manage anxiety and stress, this workshop is for
you!
Our time together will begin with a short lecture on how yogic
philosophy sees anxiety and the management of anxiety. We will also
explore how this correlates very well with Western thought. After
the discussion, we will move into the bulk of the workshop, which
will be more experiential. Some of our time will be spent with
practices that, when practiced consistently on the mat/cushion,
will shift the energy and help manage anxiety. Other portions of
the practice will offer up tools that can be used in the moment,
when we are challenged by anxiety.
Quieting pranayama and kriyas (practices working on the subtle
level of energy), as well as meditation, will make up the majority
of the practice time. Meditation will be partially guided and
include seated work as well as walking meditation. Some mindful
movement at a level accessible to all attendees will be
incorporated.
Handouts outlining the mat/cushion practices you could continue and
the “in-the-moment” practices you may find useful will be
distributed so you have something to refer to after you
leave.
