Once you’ve established the foundations of aerial practice you can begin to explore your apparatus creatively. This class is dedicated to supporting students through the creative process from idea to performance. Students will choreograph their very own act over the length of the session, supported by an experienced instructor. Opportunities will be made available for Act Creation students to perform at studio showcases, should they wish to. These classes run as 8-Week sessions and cost the same as a curriculum class (can be paid for with the Curriculum Class purchase options or membership curriculum credits). These sessions are supplemental to the curriculum so while students will be supported in exploring creative variations of skills they’ve already learned, no new skills will be taught in these classes. Every student will work at their own level. Students are also permitted to explore doubles/partner work with other students in this class, and to create duo and small group acts if they wish.
The next available aerial performance opportunity will be at our Spring Circus Showcase which will be held on April 11 & 12, 2026 at the Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts. The Spring Showcase will be family friendly and open to performers aged 15+. Youth aged students (11-14) who are interested in performing in this showcase will have the opportunity through the Youth Aerials 2 class during the Winter 2026 term.
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION FOR MORE INFORMATION ON OPTIONAL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY INCLUDED IN THIS CLASS
This class is a continuation of the Youth Aerials program, geared towards students who have already completed at least one term of Youth Aerials 1 and have progressed to the Beginner level of our curriculum. Students who have aged up but have several terms of Cirque Kids experience may be able to move directly into Youth Aerials 2. Enquire with the studio if you're not sure if this is the right level for your child.
In this Winter/Spring term of Youth Aerials 2, Youth will be invited to perform in the studio production of AQUARION; a themed circus show that will be put on as part of the Brass Butterflies Spring Circus Showcase being held at the Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts in downtown Kitchener on April 11 and 12, 2026 (two shows). There are no additional class fees for choosing to perform in the show, and most choreography will be taught and learned during the Thursday class times. However, if your Youth chooses to participate in AQUARION, please be aware that there will be additional rehearsals on Sunday afternoons during March and mandatory attendance at tech and dress rehearsals on Tuesday, April 7 and Friday, April 10. Emily will ask for a commitment to perform or not by no later than the first class of the term. A communication will be sent out after registration and you will have the opportunity to ask more questions before committing.
Please note there will be apparatus sharing in this class.
Pre-requisite: Completion of at least one term of Youth Aerials 1 or equivalent. By instructor invitation.

In this special 12 week choreography series, you will come together as a group to create an ensemble aerial act to be performed at the Brass Butterflies Spring Circus Showcase to be held at the Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts in downtown Kitchener, April 11 & 12, 2026 (2 shows). As part of this torupe, you will be performing in a group aerial act during the themed “show within the show”, AQUARION, which will be in the second half of the showcase. You will also be appearing in the opening and closing acts and bows. Though we are posting as separate troupes for different apparatuses, all troupes will be meeting in the same time slot each week and may be performing in the same numbers together. We are posting separately to make it easier for you to express your apparatus preference.
This is a fantastic opportunity for aerial students who are new or newer to performing to participate in a show in a real theatrical venue with a group of supportive peers. Emily, the troupe instructor and Director of the show, will guide and support you through the process of learning a themed choreography that ties into the overall narrative of AQUARION. Choreography will be customized to each troupe member's skill level.
Additional Time Commitment: Please note that while the classes for this troupe will run for one hour each week on Thursdays from January through March, there will also be additional rehearsals on Sunday afternoons in March where the troupe will rehearse alongside the principal cast of AQUARION to learn the choreography for the acts featuring the whole cast (the opening and the finale). Other than the main troupe number which will be an aerial act, the choreography in the other numbers will be ground based. There will also be mandatory Tech and Dress rehearsals on Tuesday, April 7 and Friday, April 10. The two shows will be in the evening on Saturday, April 11 and a Matinée (early afternoon) on Sunday, April 12. If you have conflicts with any of these times, please inquire with the studio before registering to see if we can accommodate.
