The P+D Heels Teacher Training is different from our other Teacher Trainings, in that it works with two apparatus - a pole, and a pair of heels.
You’ll get to know your main apparatus, the stripper heel. You’ll learn to think of choreography in terms of elements and flourishes, and how to break down any piece of movement into its components so you can easily modify your choreography for any student. We’ll work through how to communicate your choreography to your classes - not just in words - and explore exercises to encourage embodied, expressive movement. You’ll also learn how to create flows for mixed level classes, including how to build progressions for dancers of different levels, and how to safely spot the skills you teach.
We’ve designed this training to leave you feeling confident that you could safely and effectively teach a fun, exciting heels choreography class to beginner students. We recommend that you have prior teaching experience or have taken a teacher training before, since we will not cover the most fundamental elements of teaching dance and movement, like layering instruction.
Prerequisites for this training (strongly encouraged):
-
At least 3 months dancing in pole heels
-
Ability to engage the ankles in transitions over and across the toe box
-
Confidence in basic spins, pirouettes, climbing, and full bracket grip
-
Knowledge of basic heelwork and heel anatomy (and enthusiasm for it!)
The fine print:
-
Participants who are interested in continuing on to teach at P+D or MMC must apply and successfully audition prior to being considered for choreography classes.
-
Participants who want to deepen their own practice of heels work and choreography are welcome to attend!
-
Payment plans are available
-
Trainings are refundable up to 2 weeks until the start date
-
Training bookings are non-transferable to other students or to other trainings
-
Trainings must be fully attended in order to start the clearance process for teaching
-
MMC employees are eligible for 50% off using code TEACH50
-
P+D Teacher Training alumni are eligible for 20% off using code LEARN

Join us for a two-day training to learn everything you need to have a solid technical foundation for teaching an all-levels Active Flexibility class. The training opens with a masterclass, then dives into anatomy, range of motion, terminology, and curriculum. You’ll learn about a functional warmup for all kinds of flexibility, and spend most of Day 1 focusing on stretches and exercises for splits. Day two focuses on backbending, including shoulders, upper back, and hips. You’ll practice teaching each other and receive individual feedback. We’ll talk about creative and effective cuing, instructional flow, identifying types of pain, and working with injuries.
Included in this 2-day, 14 hour training is a 130-page electronic version of our Curriculum Manual.
This training is great for:
- students who want to deepen their personal active flexibility practice
- current apparatus instructors who want to have a better understanding of active flexibility in their current classes
- students or current instructors interested in teaching Active Flexibility
