Absolute Beginner Modern is designed for those with no prior movement or dance experience. Taught by Emily Loar, this class series will introduce a variety of foundational modern dance concepts through inviting, low-impact movement phrasework, with the goal of creating a more confident and comfortable relationship with one’s moving and dancing body!
• What to Expect:
• An introduction into the foundations of generous floorwork, and experimenting with improvisational exercises.
• Learning the foundations and understanding of head-tail connection, contraction and extension, core and distal initiation, fall and recovery, spinal articulation, spatial awareness, musicality, and self-expression.
• A welcoming and supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to learn at their own pace.
Perfect for anyone curious about modern dance or looking to develop a solid foundation in movement, this class will leave you feeling stronger, more confident, and inspired. No prior dance experience is required—just bring an open mind and a willingness to move!
Join us on September 20th for an evening of Improv and Jam!
Tiffany McCord and Emily Loar will be hosting you in this 2 hour, guided improvisational workshop, where they will provide a series of excerises, with the focus in encouraging dancers to find every potential movement in space from head to toe, isolating the sections of the body, understanding the usage pf low, medium, and high levels in space, movement with bones vs muscle and visa versa, finding texture in movement, understanding true contact with one another, as well as the push to project energy and engagement outward in movement. Following the excersises, there will be an opportunity for you to have the space to dance among and with others, and showcase your artistic expression, incorporating the excersises learned in class in your own improvisational movement.
This workshop is designed for the Intermediate and above levels, however, there is no training in a specific genre required. We want you to enjoy having a creative place to move and explore movement itself.
There will be snacks and drinks provided, so it is a perfect time to bring a friend and come and dance together, and explore your creativity.
