I thought I was coming in to get trigger point therapy on my right hip. My mistake! Lisa analyzed my stance and gait before she went to work. She started on my shoulders, focused on my feet, especially the right one, and addressed my whole leg and lower back. She explained how the bunion on my right foot was bad enough to create (and re-create) my hip problem. I was a little worried she was going to pull my foot off my leg, but the result was a lot of freedom of movement. Her work was painful, to say the least, but she clearly knew what she was doing because she got right to the most painful spots with no searching at all. So, off to the podiatrist to fix the bunion. I left completely trusting her. I have a lot of history with sports injury, and I successfully self-treated through years of long-distance running in my 40's. Lisa knows what she is doing.
Lisa is a seasoned veteran of 40 years within massage and complimentary healthcare. From her varied experience she has developed a systematic, holistic and interdisciplinary approach to bodywork called “Point by Point Myotherapy”.
She says, she is a “pitiful excuse for a massage therapist”. This sounds strange with all her experience and the many people she has helped, but here are some reasons why she makes this statement:
1-Folks who come to her are called “patients”. Many patients who come are referred with a working diagnosis for soft tissue issues others cannot solve. Most massage therapists, take care of “clients” for immediate issues and relaxation. (Which is wonderful and necessary!) Lisa's motto, “The point is....to help you get well!” Despite the discomfort, many people, for over 4 decades have testified to the efficacy of Point by Point Myotherapy!
2-Patients receive a full health history, exam with muscle testing and treated based on those findings. A plan is set up according to the patient's need and goals. Homework is given.
3-Clothing removal is not necessary. This technique is effective while the patient is fully clothed. However, the feet, head and extremities are the exception. If there is a need elsewhere, Lisa will ask the patient to adjust the area. BUT bulky and thick clothing will have to be removed. Bedazzled jeans are pretty but please do not wear them to the session!
4-Her methodology is unlike any other. This technique is targeted on the points which can be uncomfortably effective. Some patients have said, “Its the hurt that heals.” So, its not your typical “massage”.
5-Lisa has the patient's best interest and will do all she can to help them get well, even if it means referring to another healthcare provider. This includes, their own PCP, a Chiropractor, Dentist or even another Massage Therapist!
Additionally, she is available for consultation anytime. However, since Lisa is also an instructor to other therapists, a wife, and grandmother, her time can be limited. So please leave a message via phone, text, email, carrier pigeon or smoke signals!
