Mara Nesrallah is a vocalist, pianist, composer, producer and educator, living in Tkaronto (aka Toronto). Her pursuits in a music career feel at times dichotomous, but ultimately writing and performing is her greatest tool to ground herself (and hopefully others) in the sensory world, making the intangible, tangible. Most of the time, Mara can be found working alongside Decoration Day and anna, but shares musical space with numerous creative projects, including We Are AllThe Band Named CrowThe Queer Songbook OrchestraAlex Samaras’ GREX, and Dorothea Paas, to name a few.

Mara enjoys sharing her musical perspective with her private piano, voice and songwriting pupils. In 2015, she acted as Vocal Faculty at the Global Music Institute in New Delhi, India, teaching the Berklee School of Music’s ear training methodology, as well as ensembles, masterclasses and private lessons. She aims to open her students' ears and minds by listening to music from around the world, historically contextualizing their current musical preferences, and engaging them with familiar and popular repertoire. She helps her students gain a strong theoretical and technical core so that, in time, their personal expression may become limitless.

Mara spends the majority of her time with her could-be-the-animal-sidekick-<wbr />in-a-Miyazaki-movie cats Nina and Dizzy. She’s an accomplished home cook, an 8th floor balcony garden keeper, and hopes that this is the year she’ll finish the album she’s been working on for the past four.
