Our 3-part Mindful Meditation series will help cultivate your mindfulness practice by experiencing three styles of mindful meditation on 3 separate days so you can gain a sense of presence for the little and not so little things in life.
Session One September 19th:
This lesson is based on MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and the teachings of Jon Kabbat-Zinn. Body scan relaxation meditation along with discussion about the feelings that arise through mindfulness.
Session Two October 17th: Is there a person or animal that brings you joy when you think of them? Learn about what the Buddha felt was one of the most important elements of a meditation practice, Metta, or the art of offering loving kindness towards ourselves and then to others. We will gently practice this powerful form of mindfulness, as well as continuing our work from last retreat, practicing general mindfulness of the senses. You will learn techniques that you can use in your life to cultivate more friendly attitudes towards your self and others.
Our brains are constantly being shaped by the thoughts we have and our internal commentary on those thoughts. Loving Kindness meditations give us the opportunity to change the dialogue and shape our brains with loving kindness that extends from you to your surroundings.
Session Three: November 14th
As we wrap up the Liberty retreat series with our 3rd session, we will talk about the wellbeing as a skill and how the different forms of meditation we’ve learned can help us sharpen that skill. We will continue to practice mindfulness using our senses, hone the skills from session two on loving kindness and will add the use of a Mantra to our toolbox. This session will incorporate mindful movement and a mindful eating exercise that will heighten your senses and give you tools for more intuitive eating.
Lunch will be provided.
