As our community prepares to disperse and plant roots in new spaces, we gather one last time to reflect on how we show up—for ourselves, each other, and this sacred practice. Mala has always taken great care to avoid appropriation and honor yoga’s roots in India.
This workshop offers a heartfelt inquiry into the ethics of yoga practice in the modern West. Together, we’ll explore cultural appropriation in the yoga world and how we can cultivate awareness, respect, and responsibility. Through the lens of the yamas and niyamas—yoga’s ethical foundation— we’ll explore the difference between appreciation and appropriation, how to center cultural respect in predominantly Western wellness spaces, and what it means to live yoga—not just do yoga.
This workshop is discussion based (no asana practice) Join us online or in person. Let’s close this chapter with intention—and carry forward the heart of yoga with reverence.
