Kirtan is a form of Bhakti Yoga, or the “yoga of love and devotion”. This type of yoga can be done by anybody, anywhere! It is also a form of Nada Yoga, or “sound yoga” which uses vibration to heal and regulate the body and mind.
In kirtan we sing chants(mantras) in a language called Sanskrit. These are sung in a call and response fashion. The mantras which make up these chants came to people long ago while in very deep states of meditation. You can think of the mantras as the way back to those places of deep peace. Like finding your way home to your truest self.
Practicing kirtan supports any and all spiritual paths and is truly meant to foster a deeper connection to the spirit within as we change our vibrational frequencies through sound. It is a wonderful way to reap many of the same benefits as meditation. There is no experience needed and all are welcome!
