Description
“How to be more present in your body on your mat.”
In this training you will learn:
-Intro to Somatic Experiencing Therapy (SE)
-How to connect SE to the practice of yoga
-How to recognize disconnected body parts and dissociation in yoga
practice
-How certain yoga poses may trigger emotional/traumatic memories
and what SE techniques may help.
More details:
In this 3 hour workshop, Grace Ballard and Christina Conrad will
provide an introduction
to Somatic Experiencing, a leading therapeutic approach to healing
trauma. Somatic
Experiencing is the life’s work of Dr. Peter A. Levine, resulting
from his multidisciplinary
study of stress physiology, psychology, ethology, biology,
neuroscience, indigenous
healing practices, and medical biophysics, together with over 45
years of successful
clinical application. This approach is used by a variety of healing
professionals including
mental health clinicians, bodyworkers, yoga teachers, doctors,
nurses, physical
therapists, and life coaches. Each profession blends SE uniquely
into their healing
practice. We will provide an overview to the theory of Somatic
Experiencing and the life
changing impact this work has personally and professionally. We
will also explore how
trauma can get “stuck” in the nervous system, how to listen to what
the body has to say
and how to employ this in your healing process.
In Somatic Experiencing, we believe that the body was created with
the tools to heal
itself and if we can learn how to listen, creating an intimate
relationship with our bodies,
the body will tell us what it needs to heal. Come spend the
afternoon with us as we
explore this process more deeply through instruction, experiential
activities and
discussion.
“Trauma is a fact of life. It does not have to be a life sentence”
