About the Instructor:
Fran has spent over 30 years in the performing arts beginning with her interest in theatre. She graduated with a B.A. in Theatre from SUNY Oswego where she performed in and directed plays, and studied stage design: the seed of her visual exploration of how a stage design could come alive and integrated into movement for the physical performer.
Her career took a turn to Dance in NYC, when she received a scholarship to study ballet. She also received a scholarship to Pierre Dulaine’s American Ballroom Theatre where she worked with Pierre to create his Dancing Classrooms Program. Her dance and acrobatic mentors were Pierre Dulaine, Janet Panetta, Chuck Kelly, Sutton Gym, Phil Black, Frank Hatchett, and Luigi.
During her dance career, she met circus connoisseur, Karen Gersch, and began training as Karen’s acrobatic top- mounter. They went on to perform their acrobatic shows in NYC and abroad for 17 years, and as their shows grew larger and more diverse, Fran began to perform Spanish Web and Static Trapeze. Since that time, Fran has gone on to perform Silks, Lyra, Triple Trapeze, Duo Aerial, Aerial Net, and Harness, and has choreographed for/ coached Kathy Najimy, Michael Gelman, Jeff Whiting, Iris Mittenaere and Liev Schreiber’s son, Kai, in the air.
Her performance highlights:
Big Apple Circus Events, Late Night with David Letterman, David Gallo/Madison Square Garden (2 Phish Concerts), Dixon Place, Zamperla Circus, Beurre De Boer in Amsterdam, Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall and its Out of Doors Festival, Lululemon, and the Winter Garden.
Fran has been teaching aerial dance for almost as long as she has been performing. Her company, Skybody Aerial Fitness and Entertainment implemented an Aerial Arts program within Reebok Sports Club NY from 2009-2012, and later within the Limelight Marketplace. Her classes aired on Kelly and Regis with Kelly Ripa, Good Morning America, TV Guide Network, Pix 11 Morning News and Toni On New York. She has trained in various aerial modalities with: San Francisco Circus Center, Aloysia Gavre, Juliana Neves, Joseph Pinzon, Terry Beeman, Brett Womack, Serenity and Elsie Smith, and Kevin O’Connor.
Fran’s passion for teaching is unbounded. She imparts a flavor of joy and seasoned sensibility in her classes, and wants nothing more than to see students succeed and shine in whatever capacity they imagine.
This workshop is for students who have previous Level 1 aerial experience on any apparatus. Must be able to invert from the ground independently.
