The life and the inspiration of yoga can by found within the soothing, ever-present flow of the breath. The bridge to creativity and true inspiration is here, within you. Breath work helps to organise the flow of energy around the body and provides an abode where the mind can rest and regenerate. The breath represents the flow of life and is the element that connects all the moments in our life to this one. In this workshop we will be discovering the lightness of being that deep rest and conscious breathing can bring us.
We will start with simple breath and energy awareness, moving on to restorative yoga postures which naturally energise and support you to breathe well. You will learn pranayama (breath work) techniques to encourage the flow of energy around the body. Consciously guiding the breath not only creates a sense of physical lightness of being, but also releases mental knots and unhelpful repetitive thoughts. We will close this session with a practice of Yoga Nidra - a deep relaxation which helps you to feel grounded and relaxed.
Restorative yoga is a slow, meditative style of physical movement, which helps to release stress and bring about ease in body and mind. The gentle, supported postures are held for up to 10 minutes with a focus on comfort and the subtle release of muscular knots and tight spots. All of the props are provided, and we will be using bolsters, blankets, blocks and belts to ensure that the body is supported enough to completely relax and let go. The stress of daily life accumulates in the body in the form of holding patterns and chronic tension. When you encourage the body to release its held tension, stress begins to dissolve from the mind.
