North Walls Indoor Climbing
5th of February - 8AM - Lead Climbing: An Introduction
5th of February - 8AM - Lead Climbing: An Introduction

After you have honed your top rope skills, you may be ready to learn the fundamentals of lead climbing (aka sport climbing) and belaying. Learning to lead will bring new exciting challenges and adventure to your climbing. Lead climbing differs from top roping in that the rope is not secured to anchors at the top of the climb. Instead, the climber trails the rope up with him/her and clips it into anchors along the way up the route.
Sport climbing skills will give you access to ascending roofs and other overhanging climbs that can’t be done with a top rope. Leading is much more involved than top roping, so proficiency at climbing and belaying are a must.

Special Instructions

Participants will learn the proper techniques to belay a lead climber. They will also learn how to tie into the sharp end of the rope and lead routes. After completing the lead class, students will have the knowledge to lead climb in indoor environments.
