Description
MBSR originally developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 is a highly structured, comprehensive and highly engaging program that takes the form of eight weekly two and one half hour classes, and one all day retreat, which we will subsitute with a 3-hour class on June 8.
The programs’ primary focus is the practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness involves cultivating the art of paying attention in a particular way to one’s experience from moment to moment with both curiosity and wonder, and in the process, letting go of attachment to unhealthy mind, body, and emotional states. This learning lends one to deep self understanding, and the learning of powerful methods for actively participating in one’s personal well being
Emerging studies validate that MBSR participants may experience:
Enhanced immune function,
Increased perception of time
Decreased stress related symptoms
Increased ability to relax
Enhanced management of chronic illnesses
Balance in mind body states
Enhanced self awareness and self management skills
Greater ability to respond to both long and short term stressors, and more.
