Who We Are

Hero Dogs, Inc., a Maryland 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, improves quality of life for our nation’s heroes by raising, training, and placing service dogs and other highly skilled canines, free of charge with lifetime support of the partnerships.

We have a small staff and more than 150 dedicated volunteers committed to the success of our mission. We are located in Brookeville, MD.

Who We Serve

Hero Dogs only places dogs in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Hero Dogs places service dogs with veterans of the U.S. military and first-responders with disabilities. Disabilities do not need to be service connected. To learn more about specific eligibility requirements or to apply for a dog, click here. There is no cost to the recipient for the service dogs we raise, train, and place, or for the training we provide.

We also place skilled home companion dogs with veteran and first-responder families, and facility dogs with qualified clinicians.

Many Hero Dogs volunteers who have adopted released dogs also volunteer with those dogs as therapy dogs. These volunteers serve thousands of area residents every month.
