Scientific name: Agrimonia eupatoria
Country of Origin: Croatia
Herbal Energetics:
(AKA Church Steeples, Stickwort and Cocklebur)
Agrimony is a hedge plant related to the Rose. It is native to England and has yellow petals with an egg shaped leaf. Its distinctive, pleasant scent is often compared to apricots. In the fall, its flowers turn into burr-like seed pods. Elizabethan herbalists referred to the plant as philanthropos, perhaps for its many beneficial properties, or maybe because its seed pods stick to the clothing of passersby, giving them the “gift” of next year's plants.
The entire Agrimony plant is harvested and everything, except for the roots, is used. European folk herbalism used it to dye wool. Agrimony can be used in infusions, herbal tea blends, extracts, and topical applications.
