Blue Cohosh Root shares its name with the black variety, but little else.Caulophyllum thalictroides, a rhizome perennial in the Berberidaceae family, is native to the woodlands of eastern North America. Named after its bright blue, poisonous berries which ripen in the fall, blue cohosh root has traditionally been utilized for its healthful properties.It can be tinctured, used in topical applications, or steeped as blue cohosh tea.
The word cohosh is from Algonquian and means rough, which refers to the root.
