Description
Adaptation is a method of adjusting traditional yoga postures to meet the specific needs of students. Adaptations are useful because they increase awareness of movement, develop new movement patterns, and help improve body functioning. Learn the process of adapting poses within group classes or for individuals including: identifying common conditions/needs for set population, creating clear intention for practice, and cueing methods. This workshop will include some lecture, group work, and practice. Bring your ideas of favorite poses to be adapted or specific conditions that would require special adaptations.
This course will be led by Dr. Kim Allen - certified yoga teacher and yoga therapist trained in Viniyoga. This style of yoga is developed from a therapeutic perspective. Vi can be translated from Sanskrit to mean “apart” or “separate awareness.” Ni can be translated from Sanskrit to mean “appropriate application.” This style of yoga is focused on increasing the practitioner’s awareness of their current experience/situation, then providing appropriate application of yoga techniques to meet a particular intention. Each Viniyoga practice can include a combination of movement, breathing, meditation, sound, or more depending on the theme of the class.
