Description
Join Candace for a 75-minute Blindfolded Vinyasa Practice
We will warm the spine and legs, then travel through a series of postures, finally synching breath to movement.
There will be limited opportunities for inversions and armbalancing.
What you’ll need: Your yoga mat and a blindfold (scarf, bandana, hand towel, etc). Blocks will be needed and will be provided in the studio, or bring your own if you prefer.
Requirements: None. All adventurous new and old practitioners are welcome, although it may be beneficial if practitioners are generally familiar with basic yoga poses (ex. warrior, triangle, etc.).
There are many benefits to experiencing a blindfolded yoga practice:
~ Bolster proprioception and sensory awareness. Even in a mirrorless room one heavily relies on sight for balance and alignment. When you cannot visually confirm shapes, i.e., that the knee aligns over the ankle, you will be forced to feel, not see alignment and understand where your body is in space (proprioception). After losing sight other senses may heighten as one learns to move more intuitively.
~ Be empowered through a highly physical practice. A blindfolded yoga is a more physical practice: the body may temporarily tense up due to anxiety or fear, and as more muscles must engage and tighten to maintain your balance.
~ A more internal practice. Eliminate distractions and judgments created through any body comparisons.
~ Find trust in your body. Set free the mind and let the body lead. Once acclimated, surprise yourself as you regain comfort, balance and strength.
