Description
This course is suitable for those with any level of experience, or none, including past participants.
Qigong combines the cultivation of lifeforce energy with an attitude of embodied presence. Its practices teach us how to tune into our own physical and emotional energy fields, becoming aware of what is open, alive and flowing inside us, and where we are experiencing contraction, blockage and stagnation. Through the integration of body, mind, breath and emotions, we learn new ways of responding to whatever we encounter by positive, life-affirming means, engendering balance and harmony within. Working in this way we are able to reduce and even prevent the accumulation of toxic energies and stresses, which contribute to physiological dysfunction, physical ailments and pain.
Qigong is based on principles that stretch back into the prehistoric shamanic past of ancient China, influenced by later spiritual traditions, particularly Taoism and Buddhism which help us to centre, align and ground ourselves in our everchanging environment. Its slow, gentle movements are inspired by a close observation of the natural world, including those of animals, although standing, sitting and sometimes lying postures are also used, allowing the mind to tune into more internal phenomena.
Although martial applications exist, Bob will be sharing an approach to Qigong that is very much focused on achieving emotional integration, through physical expression of the elemental forces at play within us, and which is thus aimed at fostering spiritual growth and personal transformation, as well as health, wellbeing and longevity. He has been practising Qigong for nearly two decade, having already been practising sitting mindfulness meditation for some years before that. His work as a complementary therapist, as well as his passion for dance-based movement meditation, also inform his practice.
