Description
Perhaps you remember the ease with which you attempted handstands as a child. Or maybe you want to try headstand in a class but you're not quite sure how to do it.
What is this workshop about?
This fun workshop will give you ample time to experience three inversions under the guidance of an experienced teacher: headstand (sirsasana), forearm stand (pincha mayurasana) and handstand (adho mukha vrksasana).
Matt will break down the elements necessary for balancing in inversions, including core control, shoulder mobility and understanding centre of mass. Students will work against a wall and in partners to help each other balance. Everyone will leave knowing how to progress their inversion practice.
Who is this for?
You do not need to be able to balance in an inversion to sign up to this workshop! You are welcome even if you have never tried an inversion. This workshop is accessible to a variety of levels except absolute beginners. Inversions might be contraindicated for people with uncontrolled high blood pressure or people with osteoporosis.
Who is Matt?
Matthew Huy, MSc has taught yoga for more than 17 years and teaches anatomy and physiology to yoga teachers. He holds a master’s degree in exercise science and is the co-author of the book The Physiology of Yoga due out in June 2022. Matt loves inversions and helping others be upside-down.
