BMF is excited to bring back this super
fun group class where students learn to improvise music by
responding to what they see on the big screen and to what the
others in the group are doing — all in real time. Sax man Brad
Hubbard is back to lead this great class in true musical
experimentation. Whether you're a lifelong player, or a total
beginner you can make music in this class. No experience
The group class will meet weekly and play together by paying attention to a movie scene. You will compliment/embellish on/support what you see happening in a film scene on the screen in front of you. You've seen and heard how much a live piano player or full orchestra (or in the case of Neil Young tracking electric guitar to Jim Jarmusch's 'Dead Man' while watching) can bring to a film experience.
This class is an exciting way to use musical instruments to create and enhance a “scene,” and an informal opportunity to make music (whatever that is!) with others.
When we offered this class a few years ago, The Highlands Current summed it up pretty well here: Movie Music Magic.
