Based on traditional Chinese medicine. Yin is the opposite of Yang, which is fast, bright, energetic and outward looking. Whilst Yin attributes are slow, dark, passive, soft, reflective, inward looking, autumn/winter and night- the perfect compliment to the busyness of our modern lifestyles.

Yin Yoga focuses on the slow, patient, opening of the fascial layer of the body. The fascia is the connective tissue that underlies the skin, wraps the muscles, and holds the bones together. It is the conduit for the meridians of the body through which energy flows. Over time chronic tightness of this layer causes stiffness and inflexibility, restricting mobility and energy flow. Fascia responds differently than muscle and requires this slow approach to facilitate opening. This is a deeply meditative practice that stimulates the body’s energy channels (meridians) bringing balance to the vital organs, improving flexibility and joint mobility This practice is suitable for all levels of students: avid yoga practitioners, athletes of any kind, and anyone looking to take some time to slow down in their busy lives.
No prior yoga experience required.

Taking time to set up each floor based pose with props/support, we will hold each posture for between 3-5mins to allow the body to fully relax, let go and work on a deeper level. The focus these classes will be on opening the hips, shoulders and lengthening the spine. We will practice stillness by observing the breath, and deeply connecting to feelings, sensations and emotions that arise in the body.
