Tapas in Sanskrit literally means “heat”. It can also mean
“discipline” or “austerity.” It is also one of the five niyamas
(observances) outlined in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. An early name
for a yogi was tapasvin, which meant “voluntary self-challenge.” It
literally comes from the Sanskrit verb “tap” which means “to burn.”
When we practice postures, we literally burn away old patterns and
strengthen new ones by the way we practice.
The Tapas Flow is a challenging class for advancing students.
Sequencing this class may will generally move from simple to
complex, ending with a pinnacle pose or poses. There may be
some pranayama added. Pranayama is known as the most important
tapas for a yogi because it is known to open the lotus of the
heart.
Be prepared to work hard, sweat and have fun.. but also go
inward. Ambitious beginners and beyond are welcome.
