As we age, as we face challenges in life, as we live our lives in a complex world, resilience becomes more and more important. How do we build resilience, or the ability to recover, to spring back with ease, to be elastic?
Through balance and pratcice.
This class will help you lay down the neurological and physical pathways that supports a strong body and mind.
There will be effort and challenge here. You will be asked to pay attention to the muscles you feel working and lengthening, and to the emotional and mental effects of that work. There will also be release, space, calm--time to live in the comfort of your body. Myofascial release and restorative postures are a part of every class.
The class is largely a hatha style, which gives you the time to both challenge yourself and soften into a posture. Through hatha, you build bone mass and muscle. The hatha style gives you the time to be curious about what your body is doing and where your mind is going.
Your teacher, Sara, has extensive training in orthopedic and anatomical yoga and will especially apply her knowledge during the hatha portion to help you engage smaller muscles and advance in postures.
But, there will also be flow, moving with the breath, to help you learn to use breath as a tool.
Ten minutes of optional guided meditation is included at the end of every class, taking the class from 75 to 90 minutes for those who choose to remain for meditation. Students who need to leave after class have time before meditation.
