Most forms of yoga asana target muscles. Yin Yoga, based on Chinese Medicine, is a gentle, quiet practice that works deeply into the connective tissues of the body. The perfect level of challenge, set up in postures maintained for minutes at a time, steadily stimulates fascia, cartilage, joints and even (over time) bones. Through this persistent but gentle pressure, just as in acupuncture, energy facilitated through these tissues impacts the health of organs and glands. Therefore Yin Yoga offers a balancing quality for overall wellness alongside other fitness modalities. The class is accessible to all students through unlimited modifications, and the use of props to either make poses easier OR more challenging. The majority of poses are done seated or lying down. This is a simple class wonderful on its own as a meditative experience, as well as a complement to other more active physical practices. It is deceptively challenging but will leave you feeling grounded, expansive, refreshed and more at ease as you move through the world.
