<div>The class will alternate between Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga and a very Gentle Hatha Yoga class. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Yin Yoga, the postures are all seated, prone or supine. We stress the connective tissues (bones, joints, tendons, ligaments and fascia) by going into the posture at your edge and holding the postures a little longer than you might in other forms of yoga. This is done to help smooth out the fascia which becomes stiff, tight and fuzzy during sleep, compress some joints and open others and gently lengthen tendons and ligaments in order to promote greater mobility. These postures are done with props to support the body, such as folded blankets, straps, a bolster and blocks. If you do not have a bolster, blocks or straps, you can use folder blankets to make a bolster, an old soft belt such as from a bathrobe for the strap and a couple of large books for blocks.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Restorative Yoga consists of postures similar to Yin postures but rather than entering the postures at your edge and stressing connective tissues, you are coming into the postures and relaxing the whole body, basically melting into your mat and props. The postures are also held for a longer time than you might hold in other forms of yoga.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Gentle Hatha will be regular Yoga postures, some standing, some seated, some lying down, either prone or supine. There will be NO vinyasas. We will hold the postures, engaging the muscles as instructed, entering and exiting the postures slowly and mindfully. There will be attention to alignment, muscle engagement and breath.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Each of the above 3 modalities of Yoga will also involve some pranayama (breathwork) at the beginning of the practice and savasana at the end of the practice. Sunday Yoga class is a multi-level class and variations of each posture will be offered for those who are new to Yoga and/or for those who have a more regular practice. If anyone has a request as to what you’d like to work on, please mention at the beginning of class. I look forward to seeing you all on the mat.</div>
