Mud No Lotus- The Art of Transforming Suffering by Thich
Nhat Hanh.
Thich Nhat Hanh is a Zen Buddhist monk who lives in Plum
Village in the southwest of France, and who wrote the
best-selling book Peace is Every Step.
Format:
Each session will begin with a 5-10 minute meditation, using
various breathing and meditation techniques described in the
book.
Some of the topics we will be exploring are:
Week One, July 12: (Chapters 1 & 2
pgs. 10-29) How we try to Avoid Suffering/Why Mindfulness and
Meditation are important
Week Two, July 19: (Chapters 3 & 4
pgs. 31-52) Where does Suffering come from? How to Suffer Well/How
to Transform Suffering into Understanding and
Compassion
Week Three, July 26: (Chapters 5 & 6
pgs. 56-81) Nurturing Happiness/Suffering and Happiness are
Interdependent
Week Four, Aug 2: (Practices 1 & 2
pgs. 84-100) The Importance of Community/Happiness Practices
Week Five Aug 9: (Practices 3 - 8 pgs.
101-124) How to be Present with Strong Emotions/Happiness
Practices

through dialogue and the sharing of ideas.
