Split Level Classes: This is a split level curriculum class which means there may be students from the Intermediate and Advanced Hoop levels in this class. Students registering for split level classes should be aware that more independence will be required as they work on their assigned movements while the instructor works with other students. All students in split level classes will get individualized instruction but should be prepared to also share the instructor with the rest of the class. Students may register in this class if they have taken Intermediate Hoop or a higher level at least once previously. Split classes are a great place for students who are nearing the end of one level but are not quite sure they are ready to progress to the next level! See the Intermediate and Advanced Hoop level descriptions for more information about each level.
Intermediate Hoop: Intermediate Aerial Hoop builds on students' strength and knowledge and begins to expand their ability to move around the hoop. Students will learn to roll over their hips and thighs and use unexpected body parts to hold their weight (elbows, ankles, hip joints, the list goes on!). Students’ grip strength will be challenged as they take on more challenging positions, moving their body weight outside of the hoop. A large emphasis will be on the ability to move fluidly between positions and developing an understanding of how positions are connected. Students will start to work on their first rolls around the bottom bar in this level! All students are unique and progress at their own pace, generally students should expect to spend 4-8 months minimum in the Intermediate Hoop level.
Advanced Hoop: Students entering Advanced Aerial Hoop have developed competency and comfort on the double tab hoop and are now ready to experience the challenge of interacting with a single tab hoop. Students can expect to get up on top of a single tab hoop and begin to interact with the span set and the top of the hoop in new ways. Students will be working to develop a variety of key skills in the Advanced Hoop level: single arm hang strength, pulling over to the top of the hoop, beats, meathook, hip circles, and toe and heel hangs. In addition to exploring the span set, students will also begin exploring travelling around the outside of the hoop and inverted positions inside of the hoop.
