The many practices of yoga nurture and support all the layers of our Being. The pranavayus, along with the chakras and nadi channels, are considered to be part of the energetic Self. They describe the movement of prana, or life force, that sustains and nourishes all the systems of the physical body .
Join Cara and Susan this fall and winter for a virtual six-class series to explore the pranavayus. Class will meet once a month, October through March, for 90 minutes. Through practice of yoga postures (both active and restorative), pranayama (breath), mudras, meditation, visualization and deep relaxation you will have the opportunity to embody and strengthen the pranavayus in yourself. The first five classes will each explore one of the five pranavayus, and the last class of the series will integrate them all.
Our first session, on October 25th, will be an exploration of the current of energy that is simply called Prana Vayu. This upward current nourishes the region of the chest, heart, lungs, and head. When in balance, it promotes vitality and enthusiasm. When not in balance, it can lead to feelings of either sluggishness or restlessness. We will begin with pranayama and mudras, then move into Sun Salutations and a heart opening practice. Class will end with some restorative postures and a deep guided relaxation.
Our schedule for Fall is:
October 25 - Prana Vayu - upward current - supports the cardio-respiratory systems
November 22 - Samana Vayu - inward and outward current from the solar plexus, supports digestion, both physical and digestion of thoughts and feelings
December 20 - Apana Vayu - downward current - supports pelvis and pelvic floor, urinary and eliminatory systems
The coming colder months give us an opportunity to deepen our practice and understanding of the vast art of yoga, and support each other in community. We hope you will join us!
