Yin yoga is slow, introspective and meditative, making it suitable for almost any level of pracitioner. This style of yoga is the perfect compliment to our fast paced lifestyle because it allows us a much needed opportunity to slow down, relax and really feel what is going on within. When we take this time to slow down, we are able to drop into our bodies and into the present moment, fully aware. Through a regular Yin yoga practice, we discover ourselves on a deeper mental, physical, emotional and even spiritual level - with present moment awareness.
Most poses are held between 2-5 minutes and are supported by the earth as well as any props brought to the mat. Once a shape (pose) has been established, the practitioner can then soften, release muscular efforts and surrender into the pose. As a pose is held for a set period of time, the connective tissues (tendons, ligaments & fascia) located deep within the body are hydrated, lengthened and revitalized.
There are many more profound benefits to practicing Yin. Come and see for yourself!
