fall, Esquina and DANZA are partnering to get you out of your
comfort zone ....and love it! Ballet Bootcamp: an intro to
classical ballet designed for the beginner adult, no previous dance
experience required. Find your joy in ballet, whether as a
first-timer, or someone who is returning after a long
hiatus.
Laura Corral was
born and raised in far west Texas where she received her ballet
training. Here she founded Mountain Movement Dance Company (MMDC)
which was invited to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in
2017. Last year, members of MMDC participated in the Theorist Fest
at the Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin. As a
co-artistic director of MMDC, Laura is passionate about discovering
unique performance opportunities while creating community through
dance.Laura also studied modern dance with the Limón Institute in
New York City and graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso
with a BFA in dance performance. She has had the opportunity to
perform works by several choreographers; among her favorites: Doris
Humphrey, José Limón, Martha Graham, Maxine Steinman, Ila Conoley
Paladino, and Emily Morgan. Some favorite ballet performances
include soloist in Swan Lake and Paquita, Lilac Fairy from Sleeping
Beauty, Nutcracker Suite’s Arabian Coffee, and the opera’s Carmen
and Aida. Laura spent several years as a teaching artist for
National Dance Institute's affiliate, Kids Excel and now teaches
for DANZA here in Austin.
