Jazz is a term that can refer to several dance styles. Jazz dance originated from the African American vernacular dance of the late 1800s to the mid-1900s. Until the middle of the 1950s, jazz dance often referred to tap dance. Later on, popular forms of jazz dance were the Cakewalk, Black Bottom, Charleston, Jitterbug, Boogie Woogie, Swing dancing and Lindy Hop. After the 1950s, jazz dance evolved to Broadway into a style known as modern jazz.

Dancers will learn to connect to the music used in class through lyrics and understand storytelling through this. As any jazz class we will be working on flexibility, strength and proper placement of the body while tackling choreography to connect movement to technique.
