Recent statistics indicate that 43% of women and 45% of men will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. Essentially, 1 in 2 Canadians will experience cancer. What these facts do not indicate is that survivorship is higher than it has ever been. Research tells us that physical activity, including yoga, is effective in mitigating the effects of cancer and its treatment. Yoga therapy, delivered by a qualified yoga therapist, is a safe and beneficial adjunctive therapy throughout the cancer trajectory.
This module will consider an overview of cancer and its treatment. We will also discuss side effects and barriers, including those most frequently encountered in movement practices. It will combine lecture, discussion, and practical application so that every type of learner may engage. Resources will be shared and created to take with you into your individual teaching environment.
