Students are often taught to start with a blank canvas, and they’re also taught that bad art should be tossed or tweaked. In this course, you’ll discover that art doesn’t have to start from scratch, and unsuccessful pieces doesn’t have to be thrown away or painted over! Sometimes, great art begins with recycling your old work for a brand-new creation.

In this project, you will create a mixed media portrait in large format that will stimulate your creativity and show you the possibilities when you recycle your unwanted art. Learn how to create contemporary portraits that would make artists like Picasso or Matisse envious. Learn how to take the art you don’t know what to do with and turn it into something new and exciting.

This is a great course - especially if you are a beginner and have never done drawing or sketching in your life! In 6 weeks, you will accomplish two objectives: (1) learn how to sketch and (2) learn to create extraordinary portraits. If you are a seasoned artist, you are guaranteed to expand your artistic means by this new approach to mixed media portraits - on a larger scale and with a contemporary edge.

The last time we did this project, it was many of the student’s first time working on large scale. At first, large pieces are intimidating, however this course has been specially designed to show ANYONE (no matter their skill level) that large art isn’t hard or scary - it’s liberating, easy, and incredibly fun! Anyone can join this course, the instructor will guide you every step of the way.
