<td width="587"> This class focuses on long held postures, breathwork and meditation. In Yin yoga, every movement is slow, gentle and controlled through deep breathing in order to hold the postures anywhere from 3-5 minutes. In Yin, we target the deeper "Yin" tissues wrapping around the joints, particularly in the hips, pelvis and lower spine. The yin tissues include bones, joints and ligaments. This is quite different from most forms of yoga which focus on the muscles.</td>

<td width="587">In Yin Yoga, we are not trying to "stretch" our ligaments or joint capsules. We are trying to "stress" them. The term "stretch" refers to a lengthening of the tissues whereas "stress" is the tension that we place on our tissues. Over time, the "Yin" tissues may become longer, thicker, and stronger.</td>
