Our Junior Scullers sessions are designed for kids starting around 8 years of age until they enter high school. These are drop in sessions so you can choose how many days, and which days you would like to come. We ask that rowers first take a Learn to Row program so they have covered the basics, either with us, or at another rowing centre.

Our program consists of 6 levels that rowers move through at their own pace. Levels 1-3 rowers are grouped together on the water and levels 4-6 are also grouped together. We gear specific sessions to those involved, and if we see that rowers are ready for more, or need a bit more time on the basics, we have the time to cater to that, or shift rowers into a different group. All of our programs have a maximum of 8 rowers, and we bring in more coaches as needed for sessions where we know more help will be needed.

LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS:

LEVELS 1 - 3
These levels introduce the sport in a fun way which teaches proper technique, but still keeps younger kids engaged. We ensure we learn about the equipment and become competent at launching and landing without help from others, we play maneuverability games, row to close destinations, swim from the boats, try various rowing shells, pick water lilys, play follow the leader work through the skills and fitness goals in our Junior Scullers levels.

LEVELS 4 - 6
As rowers enter Level 4, many start to develop more of an interest in rowing further distances, more technique work, racing their friends in a setting aimed at self improvement and moving to the next level in the sport. We still have lots of fun, but start to put more focus on building fitness through varying distances, intervals and race pieces on the water. This is a great time to really develop aerobic capacity and endurance as well as fast twitch muscles for shorter sprints.
