In this series, we will explain what Yin Yoga is and how this style of Yoga benefits both the body and the mind. Some styles of yoga offer a more physically challenging practice, whereas Yin, is a more meditative and relaxing style of yoga in which we focus on breath work. Since we live in a culture that is constantly on the go, it may be surprising that when a yoga class asks us to be still, it can sometimes be even more challenging than a fast-paced Vinyasa class.

For this 4-Class Beginner Yin Series, we will focus on the practice of mindfulness which will help us to become more present in our daily lives both on and off the yoga mat. This will include working with various breathing techniques that can be used to calm our nervous system whenever we encounter stressful situations in our day-to-day lives. We will also practice some of the more common Yin yoga poses and learn how to use props to assist our bodies in various postures.

Most Yin poses are done seated or lying down and we hold the poses for up to 5 minutes. Therefore, we would recommend wearing loose comfortable clothing, and bringing a water bottle. All yoga props will be provided by our studio, and we also have Yoga mats if you don’t have one.
