Destination

Crete, steeped in history, is the most evocative of all the Greek islands. Yoga Rocks is lucky to be situated within an incredible stretch of breathtakingly serene coastline. The dramatic bay of Agios Pavlos, with its dragon-like rock formation looking onto the endless ocean, expects an incredible atmosphere at this beautiful and energetically charged location. Stone steps out of Agios Pavlos bay climb onto a headland and sand dune that descends onto magnificent and untouched beaches. The perfect place to renew. Wild sands and craggy inlets lead to the Triopetra rocks from which Yoga Rocks originally took its name. It will provide you the insight you are looking for, the healing you may need from the trauma of the last 2 years. It is a mystical place that will guide you on an inward soul journey.

Crete is also full of ancient history and the best place to see it is just a day trip away from Yoga Rocks: Faistos (Festos, Phaistos). Phaistos, an archeological site, is a spectacular palace in an incredible location on a plateau with Mt. Ida/Psiloritis as one impressive backdrop. This excursion will cost an additional $50.

On the way home, we’ll stop by Matala, where Joni Mitchel once stayed for a while with all the other hippies who lived in the ancient Roman burial caves there and inspired the song “Carey”. It is a buzzing tourist spot now with loads of shops, so some people find it a bit full on! The best thing about going out for the day from Yoga Rocks is coming back!

If our stars align, a boat trip can be arranged from Yoga Rocks to Preveli beach, where potentially the first humans arrived from Africa to Europe. Explore inland and up the river on this Indiana Jones adventure that ends at a spectacular gorge. Depending on interest and availability, arrangements can be made on arrival.

Food & Lodging

The scrumptious vegetarian lunch and dinner are served on the terrace overlooking the sea. At all times guests are welcome to a wide range of teas, including medicinal Cretan mountain teas, as well as fresh coffee, fruit and nuts in our breakfast lounge. You can also help yourself to fruit, local honey with homemade yogurt or homemade peanut butter, jams and sourdough bread.

From the resort: Our nutritious, delicious food draws inspiration from the Cretan diet which is reputedly the healthiest in the world. Detoxify with fresh, quality, local produce. We mainly source fruit and vegetables directly from farmers – organic where possible. Fertile mountain slopes and bountiful sunshine produce some of the tastiest fruit and vegetables, which, when prepared with love (and local olive oil), result in mouth watering yet healthy cuisine. Enjoy your buffet feasts as an integral part of your yoga holiday.

IMPORTANT

The retreat center is around a 2-hr drive from Heraklion (HER) airport. We request everyone to fly into this airport for group pick up and drop off. If you decide to fly into CHQ Chania, then you will have to take a taxi from the airport to the retreat center (an estimated 120 Euros).
The cost includes pick up and drop off to the airport as long as it is within a 2-hour window of arrival that will be announced closer to the date. If for some reason your flight arrival is outside that time frame we set, then the charge for pick will be additional $100 one way.

The country’s health department requires that all people who enter Greece show a negative PCR test before entrance and proof of vaccination, which will also be required to return back to the USA. A PCR test in Greece will cost ~20 euros.

All papers and documents, including proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test, will be required before getting on the plane. We also recommend getting travel insurance, as we’d hate for someone to get Covid right before the trip and be unable to join us.
