Ashtanga yoga is a vigorous, disciplined practice with the same poses practiced in order. Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga come from the same lineage. Differences from Vinyasa include no music, opening and closing chants and (after sun salutations) poses are held for at least 5 breaths. Similarities to Vinyasa include the breathing, sun salutations and intensity of the practice. In Ashtanga we begin standing and get right into the practice with Sun As and Bs. You will have time to learn and adjust your body before moving into the next pose. You will recognize most of the poses from Vinyasa. You will learn so much and your practice will grow!
