Intermediate Pilates Mat - Winter 2020

This class continues to build on the beginner exercises by increasing the degree of difficulty, pace & number of exercises. There is also an emphasis on flow, moving from one exercise to the next with a minimum of motion, in order to increase the cardiovascular benefits.

Prerequisite: Beginning or Intermediate Mat or instructor approval.

NO CLASSES on Monday, Feb. 10th or March 16th, 2020

Monthly Meet-Up for Trauma and Anxiety Workshop Participants with Cheryl Kravitz

A number of students who participated in our workshops on trauma and anxiety have said it would be helpful to meet on an ongoing basis. We are planning monthly sessions beginning August 18. Cheryl will facilitate the meet-up, which will include discussion, yoga and meditation centered around relieving anxiety.

Postnatal Progress is a yoga class for mamas past their initial postpartum period (six months to four years) who are looking to target key areas for strength building - lots of core work! pelvic floor! shoulders! back! - who feel ready to step back into a fluid and dynamic yoga practice, but are not quite ready to return to a vigorous or traditional yoga class. In addition to strength, rest and integration is valued and offered.

This class is not suitable for those with prolapse or other significant injuries. This class series is a solo practice for mamas - no babies, please!

Baby Massage with Maria Sakaria

Join us for a 75-minute Baby Massage workshop with your little one! Studies have shown that infant massage strengthens the immune system, stimulates digestion, improves quality of sleep by soothing the nervous system, reduces muscle tension, relieves gas and colic, and so much more. Most importantly, the loving touch provided through infant massage strengthens the physical and emotional connection between you and your baby. Making baby massage a part of your routine with your little one has proven to enhance bonding and relationships through close physical and emotional connection! Studies show that the more tactile stimulation a baby receives in his or her first months of life up through the first year can positively impact their brain development.
 
The baby massage class is meant for you and your baby, 6 weeks to 8 months, and is also open to grandparents and caretakers. You can sign up online or show up and register the day of the workshop, walk ins are welcomed!
 
In this class you will:
- Learn how to give your baby a massage
- Learn specific massage techniques before nap time to encourage sleep
- Learn strategic ways to relieve gas, constipation, colic, and stress
- Learn how to enhance brain development, emotional and physical health for your baby
- Get one-on-one bonding time with your baby
 
Please make sure to bring an extra blanket for baby, a clean towel (small or medium) and be prepared to take onsies and diapers off for the full skin to skin touch and massage. Organic Sesame Oil will be provided in class for the massage so please notify the instructor in case of any baby allergies.

Restorative Yoga & Nidra

This 90-minute luxuriously relaxing practice is the ideal complement to today’s hectic lifestyle. In Restorative Yoga, you’ll use props such as bolsters and blankets to find the most supported position. This allows the body to relax so you can receive the benefits of the poses without any effort on your part. You’ll remain in the poses for 7-10+ minutes so you can unwind and enter a deep state of rest. The practice concludes with Yoga Nidra (or Yogic Sleep), a 25-minute guided meditation in Savasana (final relaxation). You will discover a new-found sense of peace and healing.

Sweet Surrender New Moon Sound Bath

Ishvara Pranidhana, the last niyama of the yoga sutras, invites us to surrender. Surrender into our divine nature. Bow into the force of the universe. When we surrender we can direct our energy away from ‘our story’ and see the bigger picture of our life. When we live life as a prayer we become more mindful of the beauty within and around us and each other.

Join us – Karen and Nieda – as we explore the theme of Sweet Surrender through gentle movement, mantra, and meditation. We will then relax into the healing sounds of singing bowls, drums, gongs and more. Please dress comfortably, and bring any items for comfort (pillow, blanket, eye mask). Winter Warmer Workshop with James Foulkes

During the Winter Months our energies tend to naturally be drawn inwards as nature becomes still and the cold weather and long nights draw in.

But something deeper is at work.

The Water energy of Winter is an expression of Maximum Yin and Responsiveness. We will balance the Yin nature of the gentle cleansing stretches and breathwork with complementary Yang practices, whilst using meditation, to support the sustaining of our energetic field through the colder months working with the active kidney and bladder energy.

This time is also one of incubating ideas and intentions to manifest in the Spring.

We will establish multi-layered intentions to blossom in the forthcoming year by peering into the shadows of Winter through journeying.
