For the yoga enthusiast looking to expand his or her practice or the yoga teacher seeking new material and ongoing training experiences, Heartwood Yoga Institute offers a comprehensive 16 hour Aerial Yoga certification designed to explore a wealth of alternative yoga exercises, assisted postures, and safe inversion techniques using the Om Gym system of yoga hammocks and handle supports, followed by experience with traditional Aerial Silks. Attention is give to the differences between the styles, but students quickly learn most of the work is interchangeable, and the choice of apparatus may depend on the needs and interests of the clients you are working with and what is a best fit for the resources of your facility.
This course includes discussion, practice, floating exploration, inversion physiology and theory, anatomy, a review of safety and health issues and teaching practicums. We invite any of our participants to retake the weekend at a future date if for any reason they need reinforcement of the material.
The course includes:
- A detailed manual for reference during the seminar and after.
- History of aerial yoga, aerial yoga in the media. An honest look at aerial yoga as a commercial entity verses as an authentic yoga teaching tool.
- A chance to explore and work on both aerial silks and the om gym system to compare and contrast
- A review of safety issues, learning about the swings and proper installation. Care and maintenance of the aerial swing. Insurance.
- Aerial yoga class levels – designing a safe class for different skill levels/ using aerial slings for private sessions.
- Careful exploration and teaching techniques of more than 50 supported yoga poses based on Iyengar theory.
- Physical safety issues and concerns – aerial yoga for students with high blood pressure, physical limitations, cataracts, taking medications, children, seniors, etc….
- Warm-ups, proper pose progression, class sequencing.
- Flow sequences and graceful transitions in the aerial swing.
- Flexibility training. Aerial Yoga fitness, exercises to build strength incorporating the aerial swing.
- Yoga Therapeutics using gravity and the swing for effective spinal traction and/or internal cleansing.
- Inversion Theory of physiology and anatomy (as it pertains to gravity and inversion based asana)
- Teaching practicum and learning hands-on assists.

- Fun tricks and incorporating artistry as a part of the yoga experience.

Level one Reiki training is the foundation for understanding what Reiki is and how it can be applied to enhance and support personal health. The session begins with an introduction to the energetic body and the healing potential of Reiki. We look at the role of intention and purpose in thoughts and karmic disposition. We next explore the history of Reiki and the founders. We learn the 5 precepts of Reiki and traditional Reiki meditation. A series of energy exercises help us to feel & understand energy better. Students will be attuned to level one Reiki. After the attunement, we progress through a series of Reiki exercises to practice, beginning with the Reiki Bear Project (injecting teddy bears with Reiki healing and light - these bears are later donated to children's hospitals and disadvantaged youth programs as a Karmic project reminding us of our role as healers and symbolizing how we must all share our light where it is needed). We move up to energy exchanges with plants and discuss Reiki for animals, and then we progress to self healing practices, touching lightly upon traditional Reiki share activity. This program covers Usui reiki systems, reviewing both defined hand positions and the intuitive method.

The Reiki Master weekend offers training in levels 1, 2 and Master 3A & B in a sequential manner to build information. Students will have a comprehensive understanding of Reiki (theory and practice) and learn to attune others. This program includes a manual, materials and meals. Students meet from 7:30 am - 6:3o pm on Saturday and Sunday. This does not include housing. If needed, please call about availability.
Level 3A & B Reiki is devoted to refining our Reiki techniques
and studying new healing modalities, and the second day focused on
how to teach Reiki to others and attune students to all levels of
Reiki. After completing 3B training , a student is considered a
Reiki Master, fully prepared to build a reiki
community of their own and to pass on the wisdom through classes
they sponsor. Students must have completed Reiki levels 1 & 2
to participate.
In level 3A, we do a review of Reiki basics and techniques and the
principals and symbols . We then are introduced to three more
symbols and receive the Reiki Master attunement. A series of
exercises offers many life situations where Reiki can be applied,
to refine our skill set and expand our awareness of choices where
Reiki can be of service to others.
Sound and Vibrational healing as well as crystal grids are
reviewed, and students are invited to work with crystals and tuning
forks to experiment with chakra clearing and aura smoothing along
with their Reiki practice.
Students in this level receive a silk scarf as their Reiki
attunement totem, and they participate in a Reiki craft project to
create Reiki stones that they will take home to serve as meditation
inspiration, as well as a tool to learn the correct symbols for
attunements and other reiki practice.
