Somatic Surrender: A Weekly Practice to Open the Heart, Quiet the Mind and Embody Your Life with Amanda Zabel Virtual
May 20, 2021 - May 19, 2022

Very simply, we need time and space to tend to ourselves. To be present to our lived experience, to extend and receive self-love. This weekly, 45-minute time together is an invitation to meet what is here, in this moment. To discover and uncover our relationship to our sensations and feelings and to examine where choices are available to us to surrender the stories of suffering. We can be in such a state of discomfort as we confront and are confronted by the often challenging realities of living, that we contract and create drama and stories to defend our tender, vulnerable hearts and beliefs. Instead, with deeper contact with ourselves, and practices to open wider to the felt experience and emotions of being human, we develop capacity to meet the intensity and aliveness of life, undefended and yet protected at our core.

Come join us at 8:00AM on Thursdays as we make time for silence, breath, sensation, and examination of our mind habits that keep us perpetuating suffering. We will include some time to share with each other in service of fellowship and deepening our practice.

Antiracism Learning Circle Virtual
Jun 17, 2021 - Jan 19, 2023

This monthly community meeting space is open to all who share the value of dismantling personal, cultural and institutional racism in Winston-Salem and beyond. This group grew out of HOPE TANK W-S which formed to study and practice nonviolent social change. It was formally named “Communicating Effectively about Racism”.

Each meeting includes: time to review the “wall of history” and discuss past and current events, quiet time for reflection and centering, a review of nonviolent principles, and discussion of what is coming up for members of the group as they work to dismantle white supremacy. We invite you to bring stories from your own experiences to share, or to just come ready to work with whatever emerges in the group.

This is a space for coming together across lines of racial difference as well as differences in age, experience, religious/spiritual beliefs, sexual and gender identity and political affiliation. The only requirements are a willingness to engage in honest and respectful conversation.

Join Willard, Christy, & Sydney on the third Thursday of every month between 6:30 and 8:00 pm.

To sustain this program, please consider giving a donation of any amount to Freedom Tree at Institute for Dismantling Racism. Donate HERE. (If you are unable to make a donation at this time, please join us anyway!)

Yoga Nidra with LaShanda Brown, RN, PhD Virtual
Jun 20, 2021 - Jan 15, 2023

In this fast paced society that we live in, taking time to rest has become an act of radical self love. We can all find a dozen reasons to push forward juggling multiple tasks rather than slowing our pace….until our body speaks so loudly that we have no choice but to stop.

Yoga nidra provides the perfect vehicle to rest body, mind, and soul. Yoga nidra, also known as yogic sleep, is a guided meditation suitable for all levels from beginners to advanced yogis. You will begin with gentle stretching, then led through a series of progressive relaxation.

Yoga nidra helps relieve stress, muscle tension, and insomnia. And it also improves creativity, mental clarity, intuition, and energy.

Come join us every 3rd Sunday of the month on this adventure of radical resistance through sacred rest!

You can purchase a single session or we have class pass options to choose from at checkout. You can use these passes for weekly & monthly classes.

SPECIAL BIPOC PRICING OF 10.00 IS AVAILABLE AT CHECK-OUT.

She is interested in exploring the impact of their service as caregivers on their own personal health and well being, as well as the benefits of contemplative practices like mindfulness, yoga, meditation, and reflective journaling. Dr. Brown teaches yoga and meditation in the community, and has witnessed firsthand the positive impact that these practices can have on individuals in the healthcare professions. She facilitates womens’ circles and mini retreats to offer spaces for women to reflect, learn tools for resilience, and form supportive communities.

Tai Chi with Misako Kay
Jul 15, 2021 - Dec 23, 2021

Tai Chi is a Chinese internal martial art practiced for defense training, health benefits, and meditation. It is a series of gentle physical exercises and stretches. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. It is sometimes described as moving meditation because it promotes serenity through gentle movements - connecting the mind and body.

In our class, we practice one of the oldest styles, Chao Family Tai Chi Chuan. We believe in our physical and mental wellness on individual levels. Tai chi has been shown to improve awareness, relaxation, mood elevation, aerobic capacity, natural breathing, balance range, flexibility, and muscular strength. It is perfectly suited to helping us repair our bodies, quiet our minds, and enrich our spirits.

And another great thing is that we can get to meet like minded people!

Misako is offering Tai Chi as an ongoing weekly self-care class beginning July 15th until December 16th, 2021. You are welcome to come and try the class at anytime. Beginners are always welcome.

Please contact 18 Springs to ask about accessibility needs or for any other questions. If the fee for this class is cost prohibitive to you, please apply to our Access Fund at 18springshealing.org/access-fund.

Love Liberates with Ouida Patten Virtual
Jul 16, 2021 - Aug 7, 2021

As humans, we have been conditioned to believe that we are not enough. We reinforce those ideas internally on a daily basis. How do you speak to or about yourself when you walk in front of a mirror? How about when you make a mistake? Now think of someone you love dearly. How do you speak to and about them?

Imagine extending compassion to yourself as you do to others. Imagine a world where we love and accept ourselves just as we are!

When we cultivate right relationship with ourselves (one based on truth, acceptance and responsibility) it is an act of love. Each loving act liberates us and enables us to live richer, more meaningful lives. It is my divine assignment to share what I have learned about the many pathways to liberation and the daily practices I have crafted for my own life. Love Liberates is a curated offering of tools and resources to help you find and keep right relationship with yourself.

If you are ready (like I was after a medical diagnosis wakeup call many years ago) to do the work of liberation through love and compassion, join me for one offering or all. Offerings will consist of grounding practices, writing, creative expression, self-inquiry, mirror work, and liberation resources. Each offering will be unique, as we co-create together.

May this work radiate out into the collective, and transform us all.

June- Love Liberates Intro session

July- Liberation through Trusting/Allowing

August- Liberation through Truth

September- Liberation through Release

October-Liberation through Forgiveness

November- Liberation through Language

December- Liberation through Creativity and JOY

Love liberates; it doesn’t bind. -Maya Angelou

With immense love and gratitude,

Ouida

The fee for this class is 18.00 per session.
