Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is a somatic modality that has been proven as an effective adjunctive treatment for psychological trauma.
As we practice feeling and breathing with awareness (interoception), the neural networks in our brain that may be damaged by trauma have an opportunity to reconnect.. Although TCTSY uses hatha yoga forms, the emphasis is not on the external expression or appearance (i.e. doing it “right”). The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali provide instruction on the art of meditation, what constitutes a meditation practice and what happens when the mind becomes quiet. This course will examine relevant teachings, philosophy, neuroscience about meditation in yoga therapy. During our time together we will be exploring these teachings and tools and will learn how to integrate them into our yoga therapy practice.
Yoga therapy requires a unique set of tools. Yoga therapy sessions are sequenced very differently from group yoga classes. Yoga therapists need to be able to listen and understand verbal and non-verbal cues and language, and to be able to adapt sequencing to meet the individual needs of their clients. In this module, we will learn how to sequence individual yoga therapy sessions, with a particular focus on listening and responding to the needs of our students. We will also discuss the principles of sequencing for small group yoga therapy classes.
This class offers a steady mid-week anchor to unwind the nervous system, reconnect with yourself, and explore movement that feels both grounding and expansive. Whether you're new or returning to your mat, you’ll be welcomed into a supportive space that values accessibility, genuine connection, and a felt sense of unity with something greater.
RaRa guides you through a breath-led practice with familiar poses, props for support, and soft, soulful music. You’ll build strength and flexibility at a pace that feels nourishing, honouring your body’s natural rhythm and wisdom.
Students should be able to transition comfortably up and down from the floor.
Come soften, expand, and reconnect with your inner landscape as you create more ease and spaciousness within, and a deeper connection to the world around you. I look forward to guiding you in this weekly practice.
