Intro to Reiki (free) @ EMERGE
Jul 5, 2020 - Dec 6, 2020

What if we have an unlimited reservoir of energy all around us at all times that we can access to raise our vibration and our energy level?

To be alive is to be in motion: energy in, energy out. We all seek to achieve a balance between input and output in every aspect of our lives. What if we have an unlimited reservoir of energy all around us at all times that we can access to raise our vibration and our energy level? In Eastern Traditions, this energy is called chi (Chinese) or ki (Japanese). Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is a Japanese system of energy work that provides healing and promotes happiness.

You may attend as many times as you need.

Join Tom Capshew for this free 90 minute session which begins with information about the Reiki system of healing, followed by a group Reiki session to experience this beautiful healing energy. This event is offered free to participants in gratitude for your presence.

Accessible Yoga Training with Melanie Camellia
Nov 20, 2020 - Nov 22, 2020

Join the Accessible Yoga Movement!

Accessible Yoga is an international advocacy organization focusing on sharing yoga with all. The Accessible Yoga Training focuses on how to make the yoga teachings available to everyone, regardless of their level of physical ability. We'll focus on creating integrated Accessible Yoga classes where all students can practice together. We’ll explore the many ways that yoga practice can be variated to suit students with disabilities and physical challenges as well as seniors.

We'll consider how to make our classes welcoming to everyone, and to approach students in a trauma-informed way. You'll learn sample Accessible Yoga classes, chair yoga classes, and even bed yoga classes. We'll also look at ways of bringing the yoga teachings and meditation into your classes, and how all of yoga can be used to support health and healing for every body. We'll review some common medical conditions so that you have a basic understanding of these issues.

This course includes 9 additional hours of required pre-course homework that is to be completed before the start of the course. Graduates of the program become Accessible Yoga Ambassadors and connect with a network of Accessible Yoga teachers and students around the world. Participants who have completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training will receive 30 Yoga Alliance CE hours.

A Science-Based Approach to Sequencing with Trina Altman
Jan 23, 2021 - Jan 24, 2021

This workshop weekend is for movement educators as well as the general public.

It includes four workshops taught over the course of two days and will include the exercises and sequences from Trina’s new book, Yoga Deconstructed®: Transitioning from rehabilitation back into the yoga studio. Participants may sign up for one or all of the workshops. However, it is highly recommended that you attend the first three workshops in preparation for the fourth one.

All four workshops are all-levels and qualify for Yoga Alliance CEC’s.

Workshop 1: Incorporating Somatics and Rolling Patterns in Classes
Saturday, January 23rd, 12:30–3:30p

Somatic exercises serve as regressions for traditional yoga poses and allow us to teach osteokinematics in a way that is embodied and down regulates the nervous system. This workshop will teach you how to select and sequence somatic exercises in supine, side lying, and prone to help your students improve movement patterns and prepare their bodies to navigate external load and asana.

You will learn how to:

- Incorporate somatic exercises into different styles of yoga classes, such as vinyasa and hatha.

- Create mini sequences that include non-linear movement in the transverse plane and rolling patterns that transition from lying down to seated.

- Prepare the body for seated, kneeling, and standing poses.

- Use feedback from the ground to improve proprioception for students who are hypermobile, experience joint discomfort, or struggle to sense where their joints are in space.

- Reduce feelings of stiffness or tightness through neuromuscular re-education.

Workshop 2: Using Primal Sequencing to Evolve Passive Postures into Active Movements
Saturday, January 23rd, 4:30–7:30p

Traditional asana involves many passive kneeling and seated positions. While this alone is not an issue, many of our students are not well adapted to sit on the floor and find it difficult or uncomfortable to assume these postures and transition to kneeling or standing. This workshop will give you strategies and mini sequences to incorporate into your classes to improve mobility, strength, and power in a way that is fun and challenging!

Learn how to:

- Use primal movement to reestablish better motor patterns by incorporating exercises that move through the early motor development stage.

- Flow together primal postures that relate to classical yoga asanas, including Sukhasana, Virasana, Ardha Matsyendrasana... and more!

- Use mobility drills and preparatory exercises to self assess for joint limitations and prepare the body for loading in end ranges of motion.

- Utilize bands, blankets, and blocks to adapt traditional kneeling and seated poses from passive to active ranges of motion.

- Incorporate animal locomotion movements, such as beast pose and gorilla hops into your classes.

Workshop 3: Applying Progressive Load and Control to Standing Transitions
Sunday, January 24th, 12:30–3:30p

Many standing poses involve holding one position at your end range of motion for a sustained period of time. While this may promote isometric strength at your end range, it doesn’t build strength in the transitions. This workshop will explore how to apply strength training principles, such as progressive overload to standing poses and transitions.

This workshop will teach you:

- How to prepare the body to transition through common vinyasa sequences, such as Warrior 2, Extended Side Angle Pose, and Half Moon with fluidity, stability, and ease.

- Preparatory exercises using resistance bands, cork blocks, and blankets as external load to build strength in standing transitions.

- Strategies to improve control and coordination in single leg balance movements.

Workshop 4: An Interdisciplinary Movement Approach to Yoga Sequencing
Sunday, January 24th, 4:30–7:30p

Are you struggling to connect the dots between yoga and all of the movement modalities that you’re studying? This workshop will teach you how to incorporate everything you’ve learned in the previous three workshops into full length classes. It will draw on the sequences outlined in my book Yoga Deconstructed®: Transitioning from rehabilitation back into yoga studio.

During this workshop, we will also create sequences as a group and you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other teachers to create and practice teaching your own sequences.

Learn how to:

- Develop your critical thinking skills for sequencing your classes and private sessions.

- Expand your problem solving abilities when creating sequences and planning classes.

- Teach from a skills-based approach that prepares your students for asana and real life.

- Incorporate progressions and regressions to meet the different levels of the students in the room.

*Please note: it is highly recommended that you attend the first three workshops in preparation for this one.

Are there areas in your life you believe are negatively impacting your ability to be the best possible YOU? Ex: Stress, time management, money management, negative self-image, etc. Together with the CSA coaches and other women, you’ll learn how to discover your true ‘Why’ and how we tell ‘stories’ about, and to ourselves, when our actions don’t align with who we think we are or want to be. We’ll teach you how to implement tools and strategies (utilized by sports psychologists, behavioral therapists and successful humans everywhere) to ensure you can overcome even the toughest barriers; while learning how to achieve the flexibility and mental fortitude necessary to tackle anything life may throw at you.

This immersion weekend will allow you to work as a team and in one-on-one settings with CSA coaches. It is uniquely designed to give you the strongest foundation for your pursuit and goals; whether that be the competition stage, general wellness/fitness, or in other areas of your life. We believe that the knowledge you gain, coupled with the work you put in, will give you a unique perspective and advantage to set you on the path to success in all areas of your life.

The ultimate goal of the CSA weekend/program is to train your mind, body and spirit in such a way that you begin to see yourself as an athlete where the lifestyle becomes an integral part of who you are.

Friday, April 16th, 6:45–8:45p: The Art of Tadasana

Tadasana is the foundation pose of most yoga practices. But how well do you see yourself in Tadasana?

How well do you see yourself as you go about your day?

This workshop will change the way you perceive and feel your body in space. Making simple changes to the way you stand in yoga and in life has a profound effect on your daily life, pain issues and athletic performance.

Saturday, April 17th, 1–4p: Yoga For Hips And Balance

Initiating movement from the core of the body is essential to moving well, healing successfully, and aging gracefully. To do that, we need good tone for all of the muscles in and around the pelvis for strength and balance and fluidity.

This workshop focuses on the pelvic muscles that facilitate balance and healthy movement patterns.

Saturday, April 17th, 5–8p: Psoas Release Party!

The psoas is the most important muscle in the body, acting as the main hip flexor and the engine of walking. A free and happy psoas allows the body to move with peak efficiency and little strain. Issues with the psoas can lead to any number of problems throughout your body—both physical and emotional. Lower back pain and other joint discomfort as well as disturbances to the nervous system can be linked to the psoas.

This is not a yoga class. You will spend the afternoon awakening, learning about, and releasing the psoas and understanding its core function within the body.

Sunday, April 18th, 1–4p: Yoga for Strength and Stability

Moving from the core requires balanced muscle tone and fluid joints, and in this class you will breathe, focus, move, stretch, and balance to create a more solid center. Core abdominal tone improves nearly every pose, allowing us to move with purpose and ease. Strength built on the mat informs your life when you step off of the mat, allowing you to live work and play to your fullest.

This workshop focuses on building a solid center from which healthy movement patterns originate.

Sunday, April 18th, 5–8p: What Is CoreWalking? (And Why Do I Need it?)

The CoreWalking Program provides pain relief, healing, and techniques for aging gracefully. Using simple adjustments to the way you walk, stand, sit, and exercise—CoreWalking can have life-changing results. It offers specific bodywork tools that you can easily integrate into your daily routine to reverse whatever has been holding you back from your fullest life.

In this class, you will learn a natural walking technique that helps align your bones, free your joints, and bring welcome relief to overused muscles.

When the body moves as it is designed, all parts work in harmony and the body becomes a self healing machine. Using the CoreWalking techniques, you can bring your body into the state of balance that allows you to both move and age gracefully.
